Once again, OAK BANK is participating in a FOOD AND FUND DRIVE to support the Greater Chicago Food Depository! Last year, we were so impressed with the support from our customers and our neighbors that we decided to participate and coordinate with this very worthy organization again. We hope you will join us in our effort to help thousands of Chicagoans who are at risk of going hungry.
The fact is people are struggling to access nutritious food. Right now, over 860,000 people, many of them children are unsure of when and where they will have their next meal. With the support from our FOOD AND FUND DRIVE, we will help the Food Depository provide food to these communities during challenging times.
The Food Depository has been distributing food since 1979. They began as a small operation founded by six individuals with a dream to end hunger; they continue today with the same inspiration, alongside their network of 650 member agencies – food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters. With our support, they will continue to keep food flowing into our community while addressing the root causes of hunger.
Here are ways you can help:
- Donate funds
With EVERY DOLLAR donated, the Food Depository will be able to serve 3 meals to those in need. Donations, in the form of checks, payable to GREATER CHICAGO FOOD DEPOSITORY, can be sent to the attention of Cecilia W. Burke, at OAK BANK. All monetary donations are tax-deductible.
- Donate non-perishable food
Collection boxes will be located at OAK BANK, in our lobby, from November 17, 2014 to December 18, 2014. The most needed items are:
- Canned Beans, Peanut Butter, Tuna;
- Canned Vegetables, Canned Fruit;
- Stew, Jelly, Canned Chili, Soup, Pasta Sauce
- Help spread the word
Please forward this information to friends and family and encourage them to help us help those who are not as lucky as we are this Holiday Season.
Thank you in advance for your help! Together we can make sure no one goes hungry in our community.
